Day 5 already!

There are so many great blogs out there supporting the Paleo lifestyle.  Be sure to use them as guidelines and ideas.  A great site that can be used as a starting point is Foodee.com.  They link to all types of great Paleo websites and have a great search function.  Have fun hunting and gathering!

That site is amazing! I just found it the other day and was going to share but you beat me to it. So much stuff on there, it's insane. Thanks Diso!

Sto: To answer Diso's question yesterday, I'm trying to do strict Paleo and strict zone. So far, I've been successful, but have been estimating the protein and carbs rather than measuring strictly, based on my experience with zone. I know I've been eating more fruit and less vegetables than is recommended, so will try to change the proportions a bit. At the same time, since I'm not trying to lose fat at this point (thanks to PCF and crossfit!), I wonder how much I should worry about fruit/veggy proportions. Can anybody comment?

So hungry this morning! Made a monster scramble: 3 eggs and deli turkey, with kale, a yellow bell pepper, garlic, truffle salt and black pepper.

Breakfast - Flank steak, beef bacon with Kale and half a pemmican bar.

Sto, Here is some info from a quick search, and an explanation of why we say to lay off the fruit to lean out:

"Unlike Glucose, Fructose doesn’t spike your insulin. BUT when too much fructose enters the liver, the liver can’t process it all fast enough for the body to use as sugar. Instead, it starts making fats from the fructose and sending them off into the bloodstream as triglycerides. Fructose can cause damage to the body and brain via a process known as glycation which can literally age you. In some situations (like when you’re doing athletics) fructose is good because it can fill up your liver glycogen stores. However, on an everyday basis you want to limit Fructose consumption. Mat (Lalonde) compared chronic fructose consumption to chronic boozing showing that a similar level of damage can be done to the body and mind with prolonged usage."

Thanks for the encouragement and feedback Diso. You're right, I'm probably not getting enough protein. I am not much of a meat eater, so that's been the biggest challenge for me so far. I try to get at least 3-4 blocks with lunch and dinner but breakfast is usually just what I can grab on my way out the door so it's been mostly a quick piece of fruit and maybe a hard boiled egg or two (minus the yolk)... however I feel like I am eating too many eggs because most of my lunches seem to include omelettes too so I've cut back on them. Before this challenge I typically tried to get a lot of my protein from string cheese, cottage cheese, protein bars and high-protein yogurt - so having cut all of those out I guess I need to find another source :-)

And now to my meals today; Breakfast was two hard boiled eggs, for lunch I went to Pit Fire and ordered their Tuna Salad (minus the potatoes... sooo good!) and in an effort to get more protein, a side of turkey meatballs. I then got mostly done with the meatballs before I thought about the fact that meatballs are usually made with bread crumbs... I hope theirs aren't. I stopped eating them when I realized my mistake (but like I said, I was mostly done).

Thanks, Diso! Much appreciated. So it's far more than just body fat. God knows I don't want to accelerate aging! Anyway, I'll change the proportions. : )
